Sha Tin Junior School opened in 1988 to serve the growing needs of families in the New Territories for an English-speaking education. Opening as a 3 form entry primary school, SJS quickly grew to a maximum enrolment of 540 children. In recent years the building of an extra wing and the use of shared facilities with Sha Tin College have enabled us to reach our current size of 900 pupils.
Sha Tin Junior School is fully authorized by the international Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Authorization was granted in May 2009, SJS becoming the first ESF primary school to achieve this status.
Sha Tin Junior School is accredited by the Council of International Schools. Full accreditation was confirmed in October 2011.
Facilities at SJS are safe, secure and of the highest standard. A broad range of out-of-school and extra curricular activities is offered. The school is supported by an active Parent Teacher Association.
