Communication

At SJS we regard children’s education as a partnership.  It is important that school and home work together in the best interests of the child and in this regard home / school communication is of great importance to us.

Progress Reports
Your child’s end of year report is sent to you in June each year. This is only one aspect of our reporting process. You will be invited to attend parent teacher interviews in Term 1 and Student Led Conferences in Term 2. Year 1 teachers will be trialling a ‘Learning Journey’ and Year 6 students will be hosting our first PYP Exhibition in Term 3 this year.

Newsletters
The Principal’s Newsletter and the PYP News are sent home regularly on a Wednesday. Year Groups produce their own newsletters which outline work planned and feedback on some of the year group experiences and are sent to parents at the start of each new Unit of Inquiry - 6 times over the course of the year.

Curriculum Workshops
Regular workshops are hosted for parents and provide insights into curriculum initiatives and advice on how to support children’s learning.

Electronic Communications
The school website is located at http://www.sjs.edu.hk. It is an open-access site which provides basic information about the school.

VELocity is our learning platform. It is a password protected site and is used for home learning, storage of children’s work and children’s email facilities.

An information portal, called  The Gateway, is an exciting new development for parents. It is also password protected and will allow parents on-line access to newsletters and student demographic information. There are plans to extend the functionality to include access to student reports, assessment scores and activity enrolment.

Homework
Homework is an integral part of the school programme. Completing practice tasks at home help children reinforce their learning and provides a way of informing parents of the work being undertaken in school.
