Science and Technology

Science

Teachers and students at SJS follow the IBO (Primary Years Program) for Science. Science is ‘viewed as the exploration of the biological, chemical and physical aspects of the natural world’. The curriculum guide states, it is important for our students to see science as constantly changing and evolving. Equally, when students reflect on their learning, that they develop a sense of responsibility regarding the impact their actions may have on their world’. Science has an important place within the transdisciplinary themes of the PYP where activities focus on understanding the skills and concepts related to Science.
The four (4) main Science strands in the PYP are;
• Living things,
• Earth and Space
• Materials and matter
• Forces and Energy

Resources
Our school is looking to increase the level of resourcing for Science in order to ensure students are involved in ‘hands-on’ activities for science in the units of inquiry. These include reference materials for teachers and students as well as consumable items used in experiments.

Special Events (Science)
1. X-Phase Science Lessons for Year 6 students.
2. Student led conferences.
3. Guest speakers.
4. Other events as arranged by Year Levels.
