Social Studies

Social Studies is the study of people in relation to their past, their present and their future, their environment and their society. Social Studies was previously organised into strands called Geography, History and Society.

In the PYP curriculum at SJS, social studies is taught within the units of inquiry. This allows for true in-depth exploration and the natural integration of other relevant subject areas. The focus of social studies is dependent upon the unit of inquiry’s central idea. The central idea guides the unit of inquiry and the development of the relevant concepts being taught.

Social studies at SJS aims to guide students and teachers towards a deeper understanding of themselves and others, and of their place in an increasingly global society. This enables students to participate in a changing society as informed, confident and responsible citizens.
